Every breeder knows that the secret to a successful breeding program is a bitch--most specifically a foundation bitch. This is the rock that everything else is built on. Scarlett is ours. Scarlett comes from a background of one of the early breeders in the breed--she goes back to Bettye Krug's lines. For those knowledgeable in Akitas, you will know that Bettye had Akitas rich in type and, LOL, often RED in color. Pat Mills of Skipjack Akitas did alot of breeding with the Krug dogs, especially in the later years of the Krug program and the Krug's-Ni program (Bettye's daughter). Scarlett is a double great granddaughter as well as great-great granddaughter of the imfamous Ch. Krug's Red Kadillac. Red was sired by the beautiful Ch. Krug's Yoshinori, ROM who is very apparent in Scarlett's offspring today We are honored to have such a close connection to this line from the past and have set about the process of retaining this beautiful type while improving on problem areas of the past. On her father's side, Scarlett is a descendent of Ch. The Real McCoy O'BJ (the sire of the legendary Widow Maker) by way of Uriah--Ch. O'BJ High-N-Mighty No Goshen, ROM. Fortunate enough to see Uriah in person, as a veteren at the age of 11 (!!), at the Akita Club of America National Specialty in Chicago in 1995, I was impressed with his attitude and appearance and honored to know that he appeared in Scarlett's pedigree.
Retired from the whelping box over 5 years ago, she is now 13 1/2 and as spunky and beautiful as ever. She produced 2 litters in her lifetime, her first litter produced a female that used to go to work with her owner in an Alzheimer's ward at a hospital, her second litter (bred to Multi BISS Darq Wolf, ROMX) produced 4 puppies, 2 of those are Ch. Duncan and Ch. Tabitha. Upon producing this second litter, not feeling it necessary to breed her again for no reason more than to attempt to achieve an ROM title, I decided that I had achieved what I'd set out to accomplish with her and decided to retire her from "mom duties" :) We are very proud of her and her contribution to this breed. Thank you, Momma Scar!
