Kokoro Akitas

We have selectively chosen our foundation stock from sound, healthy kennels who are as concerned as we ourselves with the negative perception of this breed and in trying to educate and inform the general public of the pros and cons of owning and meeting these magnificent animals. Our philosophy regarding our breeding program is one of beginning with sound, healthy parents with outstanding temperaments (we have a 14 year old son and a 1st grader and accept nothing less than the BEST temperaments) that produce correctly socialized puppies that we remain involved with. We do not intend to sell our puppies and leave the buyers to their own devices-to us, this creates a prime situation for inadequate instruction and ultimately disaster for the animal as well as society. All puppies are raised in our home with love, they are subjected to everyday life--TV's, vacuum cleaners, stereos, appliances, etc. We are averaging a litter about once every 3 years at this time and are very strict in our placement evaluation process. We have only produced litters with the intention of keeping something ourselves. We have made a commitment to this breed and the healthy preservation of it which we take very seriously. All dogs sold as companion animals must be spayed and neutered and papers will be issued with limited registration upon receipt of documention by the buyer's vet. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this stipulation. We believe that bringing up a puppy is a tough job, add to it the proud, noble, intellligent, loyal Akita as the breed and the job becomes more difficult than some. We maintain that a 'team approach' and breeder accessibility are optimum to responsible dog ownership in general and especially within this spectacular breed. It saddens us deeply that today's society supports a 'throwaway mentality', to us--to own an animal is for the LIFE of the animal, not until it becomes inconvenient, we do not believe the decision to become a dog owner is one that should be made lightly but rather with a great deal of thought and understanding of what responsibilities are incurred as a pet owner!
